Think like a tree

A useful technique for dealing with uncomfortable situations or thoughts involves a simple mediation.  Picture a tree hanging over a river…leaves begin to fall from the tree and land in the water. Now when you have a thought positive or negative you attach that thought to a leaf as it begins to slowly float downstream and away.  If you have any thoughts including thoughts about how you can’t do this you attach that thought to a leaf in the same way and watch it gently float downstream.  It’s not about having no thoughts so much as being relaxed in the presence of thoughts.  I find it very effective.
